Green Food - Don't Just Wear Green On St. Patrick's Day – Eat Green As Well

Do you usually wear green on St. Patrick's Day? Not only is it good luck, you will also avoid getting pinched if you wear a green shirt, pants or socks. It's a fun little tradition, but this year take it a step further and make an effort to eat green foods as well. It's easy to come up with some green food items and dishes and best of all they are very healthy. Here are some ideas to get you started.

For Breakfast prepare a spinach omelet, by scrambling eggs and added some fresh or thawed frozen spinach to it. If you like, you can also add a little crumbled up turkey bacon to the omelet. To your child's waffles or pancakes with some sliced of green apple or kiwi.

For lunch, how about a green salad? Top it with a little grilled chicken or some ham and cheese for a filing lunch dish. Of course you could also fix a sub style sandwich and top it with lettuce, green sprouts and a little avocado.

For dinner, how about some grilled chicken with a big serving of steamed broccoli and some chive potatoes. Of course a side salad would also make a nice addition. For dessert, how about some green jello topped with a little low fat cool whip, or some lime sorbet, garnished with a slice of lime or a sprig of mint. Fruit salad made with mostly green fruit would be another great dessert idea. Cut up green apples, kiwi, green grapes and honeydew melon. Add the juice of one lime to keep the fruit from turning and a little sugar or honey if desired.
