How To Reduce Sugar In Your Diet
How to reduce sugar in your family's diet should be a major concern for anyone. The average American diet contains too much of the sweet substance, posing some major health concerns. Here are some great tips on how you can start to reduce sugar in your diet.
Brown Rice
White rice contains mostly carbohydrates, which is quickly converted to
sugar by our body. Brown rice provides more nutritional value and should
be chosen over white grain rice. Brown rice also contains more fiber and
will keep you full longer.
Whole Fruits
We all love to drink fruit juices and feel like we are doing something
great for our body. While they are better than let's say soda, many
fruit juices available today are made from concentrates, contain only a
small amount of actual fruit and lots of sugar. Try eating some whole
fresh fruit instead.
Veggies
Lots of kids (and adults) fuss over eating their vegetables. Granted,
this may not be an easy thing to do, but incorporating more vegetables
into your meals can reduce sugar intake by quite a bit. Smart vegetables
include green beans, carrots, tomatoes, and squash. Stay away from too
many of the starchy veggies, like potatoes and corn, which contain high
amounts of sugar (at least for veggies). Of course raw veggies also make
a yummy healthy snack with a lot less fat and sugar than most commercial
snacks. Speaking of snacks...
Healthy Snacks
Families tend to snack a lot—yes, even parents. Make fun, healthy snacks
for your family instead of binging on junk food. For power-packed snacks
that will keep away hunger, use protein. A light snack, like a turkey
and cream cheese roll-up, will keep hunger at bay a lot longer than a
bag of potato chips.
Reducing sugar in your diet, will also help you reduce cravings for the sweet stuff.
