Wildflowers are some of the easiest plants to grow from seeds. Wildflowers are hardy, require little maintenance, and come in many, many beautiful varieties. Planting wildflowers can be done in the spring or the fall, and in many climates they can be planted during the summer as well. Wildflowers grow in almost every climate all over the world. They are planted by nature all year round, making it easy to get them growing even if the environment is less than hospitable to other plants. Wildflowers need no fertilizers, no potting soils and no mulch to get them to germinate. Wildflower seeds are so hardy they can be planted in the colder part of the early spring, through the rainy season, during the summer, and into the fall.

The popularity of wildflowers lies not just in their many attractive colors and varieties, but also in their ease of germination and growth. Wildflowers are not used to having any special circumstances in which to grow, and can be planted easily and with little fanfare. The majority of wildflower seed varieties do not need to be mulched or fertilized. Unlike many other flowering plants, wildflower seeds are released all year in the wild, ensuring that the flower seed will have the best chance at survival. This means that as a gardener, it is possible to plant wildflowers at any time of year. Wildflower seeds can flourish when planted from early spring through to late fall in most climates.

If you are planning to plant the wild flower seeds during the time of spring, then you will need to plow the land first. But, be warned that by doing so it allows favorable condition for unwanted grass and plants to grow as well. Although most people believe that wildflowers can stop weeds from growing in the garden, it is not completely true. The wildflower plants might be able to stop some of the weeds from growing by competing with them for basic things such as sunlight and nutrition from the ground, but it won't be able to stop all of them. If these unwanted plants are found in the garden, then eradicate them immediately so it won't influence the wildflowers. By the time the weeds grow back, the wildflowers would be more mature and can survive against them.

Since most of the planting work is done during spring season, the most important thing to do is to loosen the soil first before planting the seeds. The process of tilling will make the land loosen and provide the perfect condition for the wildflower seeds to grow. But gardeners must realize that this would make the condition suitable for weeds to grow also. Planting will not stop all the unwanted plants from growing, but it might reduce the quantity as it fights with the other plants for the sunlight and nutrients from the soil. If you find out that there are a number of these unwanted plants growing beside your flowers, they should be pulled out before it does harm to your wildflowers. In the near future the weeds may come back, but by then the wildflowers should have grown already and can survive from the weeds.

As mentioned above, there are many different types of wildflowers with some better equipped for colder weather and some more suitable for hot and warm weather. Wildflower plants are also divided into perennial and annual flower seeds. The difference between the two is that perennial wildflowers can live as long as several years without any replanting effort, making it an attractive choice among gardeners who prefer little workload in their garden. Since it is a wildflower plant, perennial wildflowers can actually be grown any time of the year by the gardener's preference. But it is known that the growth calendar for the perennial wildflower illustrates that the best time to start is during spring season. If planted during spring then they have a better chance to survive the cold season when winter comes since they would have grown already by then. As for annual wildflowers they can be planted at any time of the year also, but their growth rate would at their best when planted during spring and fall time of the year. When winter comes the seeds would go dormant waiting for better conditions to come, and they will start germinating when spring time finally arrives.

There is a distinctive collection of wildflower plants, each one different according to the continent and climate in which you can find them growing. All the varieties are listed under two major categories, which are perennial flower seeds and annual wildflowers, therefore making it easier for gardeners to choose which type suits your garden better. If perennial wildflowers are your choice, then take note that it is better for the plants to start growing roots when spring comes. When the wildflower plant have enough time to grow, spanning from spring to fall season, then they are most likely to survive the harsh temperature during winter. The wildflower plants will live longer this way, thus saving gardeners the effort to replant them every year. Annual wildflowers are best planted during spring or fall season. That would give them enough time for them to germinate during winter, becoming inactive right before spring season comes and the rain during this time of the year will help them to grow.

The popularity of wildflower plants are mostly due to their exotic beauty and their toughness in surviving. It's abilities to stop land slides due to soil corrosion and beautify pastures and fields since its easy to plant has increased its attractiveness among people. States across the country now use wildflower plants to stop and prevent land erosion and to provide beautiful and astonishing sceneries along highways and public attractions. Since wildflowers are hypothetically flowers that originate from the wild, therefore the seeds are much cheaper than other flower seeds. This makes the difference when compared to more expensive seeds which needs special attention and breeding in order to get the color, size or shape that the gardener requires. The fact that wildflower plants don't need any special attention or knowledge to grow makes it a good choice for the garden since it requires minimal care.

Although wild flower seeds are mostly planted in flower gardens because of their unusual and attractive colors and their durability against nature, but people are starting to realize that wildflowers can be used for other purposes because of its character. Some places face difficult soil erosion problems which might lead to land slide, and planting wildflower plants on it have been proven to be a good way to stop it. More and more places are using wildflower plants as a inexpensive and effortless way to stop land slides while adding colors and attractive sceneries to the area. The fact that wildflower seeds are from the wilderness itself and not specially bred by experts makes it inexpensive. Other plants nowadays need special breeding to get seeds that produces consistent characteristics that people want. Compare these flower seeds to the wildflower seeds that have much more choices of varieties among them, therefore giving the gardens more choices and wider range of vibrant colors and form.
