For some reason then most of just don’t think of exercising as a high priority in our lives. Exercising just isn’t a lot of fun, and it is a lot of hard work too, particularly when you are just starting off and you aren’t very fit, so we tend to use the same old excuse of not having any free time to fit it in to get out of doing it. The truth is that with anything you really want to do in life then you find the time, if you are having a hectic day but your partner calls you up and wants to go out that evening for a romantic meal, you’ll make time, if they phone up and ask you to go to the gym… you just won’t have time!
But how can you work a bit of extra exercise into your week without it being a burden? Probably the first thing I would think of is to start playing a sport. Sports are a lot of fun to play but they also give you a serious workout too. So you see that doing exercise doesn’t mean you have to do really boring, repetitive stuff all the time, instead you can play a sport you enjoy and still get the same benefit as running on a treadmill .
How about rowing? It might be a fantastic way to get and stay fit, and also a great way to build muscle, but if you use a rowing machine at the gym then it is also extremely boring, noisy and tiring. Instead get out into the fresh air and hire a real rowing boat for a change and you can be out rowing under the sun on a beautiful day instead. Or you could go out kayaking instead, I know that paddling a kayak looks easy, but after 30 minutes of it you will start to think differently! Or you could make it even more fun by grabbing a canoe and then getting your partner to go out with you, you can both take it in turns to paddle and stop along the way for a nice lunch together.
If none of that appeals to you then look for clubs in your local area, I bet there are all sorts that you have never even considered. For instance cycling clubs are a great way to meet new people and get some exercise, or even a rock climbing club would give you a good workout. The best thing about a club is that you will be socializing with the people there, which makes whatever you are doing a lot more enjoyable, and a bit of light-hearted competition will make you push yourself harder.
